Live Action Bebop!? Blessing or Curse?
Yes fam, you heard it right. Cowboy Bebop, one of the greatest and best received anime of all time, is getting a Netflix live action adaptation.
Should this be cause for concern? idk. Lets focus on what we do know. We know that:
- Live action anime adaptations have reputations for being terrible
- Everyone would rather have no adaptation at all, than have a bad on for such an exceptional and reverenced anime.
This project will be co produced by Netflix & Tomorrow Studios, and is slated to have a 10 episode run. The 1st episode will be written by Christopher Yost (Thor: Dark World, Thor: Ragnarock). I'll let you determine whether that's a good or a bad thing.
Although it would be unwise to get our hopes too high for this project, there is hope in the fact that Shinchiro Watanabe, the creator of Bebop, is joining the project as a "Consultant". We aren't totally sure how much juice the title of Consultant holds as far as decision making goes, but lets hope the spirit of the original finds its way into this new project. No promises though. Lets hope they give Keanu Reeves the Spike role that he deserves for trying to make the movie happen for years!
AND WHO'SE GONNA PLAY ED?!
